I am somewhat new to the PM account world and all the possibilities that opens up.

For those of you who have a PM account and trade our options strategies through it, do you ever invest the funds in your account in other types of investments (dividend stocks/etfs, etc...) while you are still utilizing the funds for your options strategies, or do you just allow the money to sit and be used only for options strategies?

    Thanks for any insight!

Hi Boomer34. I'm sure you will get lots of responses. I like to trade SPY campaign diagonals, certain ETFs (such as UDOW, UPRO, TQQQ, AND TMF) when the timing is right, and a few "dinner and a movie" trades. https://snag.gy/xZuFnM.jpg https://snag.gy/Yi9DXy.jpg

Hello Boomer34: I used to keep my "free cash balance" in individual TIPS bonds. These bonds are US treasury bonds so there is no investment risk. The income from these is state tax free. They can be margined at 90%. I got away from this practice because as they rolled off (matured), the new coupon rate offered was very much lower that what I was willing to accept. I also had a bad experience when TOS and TD Ameritrade integrated their operations. I believe this was in late summer of '11 though I could be mistaken. The new TD Ameritrade system would not recognize these securities as marginable so I literally had to call a very senior individual at TOS, who will remain nameless, to manually provide margin to my account. This situation was eventually rectified. Long story short, I only hold cash now.............Tony
